Time TWO Party!!

Katelyn had such a blast at her 2nd birthday party!  We kept things simple this year and had it at a park right down the street.  It's such a beautiful park with big trees, lots of open space, and great play equipment.  And since one of Kate's favorite things these days is going to the park (mainly because of the slide and the swings), it was perfect.

The moment we got there she was giddy with excitement, seeing all of her aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

It's all about the slide...the bigger the better!

We grilled burgers and hotdogs, chips, and oranges (her favorite)

I had fun with a few decorations.  I learned out to make these fun tissue paper pom poms and a "lolliplant" on Pinterest!  We used her birthday banner from last year.  After the party I hung the pom poms up in her room, she loves looking at them!

Grammie made all the cupcakes-Strawberry and Funfetti, yum!

You wouldn't believe how many attempts at a family pic we made here!  And this is the best we could do!  If we can get one of the kiddos looking, we're lucky!

She had fun opening presents.  This was the expression on her face for each one!  (Followed by a glare at Sydney who...how dare her...wanted to play with the new toys!)

Auntie Shell and Lukers

The Garlands..wow that sounds funny!

It was a great day!

My baby is two!

I just can't believe my baby girl is two today.  Yes, she's still my baby!  It's crazy how fast it has flown by.  Two years ago today was one of the best days of my life, and also the worst.  I could never describe the happiness I felt to hold my baby girl in my arms.  I was thrilled that she was 8 lb 11oz and the doc said she looked good.  This was my first time holding her, before we knew anything was wrong.  I didn't get to hold her again for 7 days.

This is the only picture we have of her the day she was born.  From the moment we found out about the TEF, I couldn't even think straight, so overwhelmed with fear and grief.  I had no idea what the doctors in Madera were going to say about her condition.  I will never forget that two hour car ride to Madera, sobbing and virtually shaking with fear the whole way.

Steve and I upon finding out that the surgery went well and she had one of the least severe cases.  I'll never forget this moment either, it was our first sign of hope.

The weeks to follow were filled with ups and downs.  The nurses warned me of that, but it just isn't something you can wrap your head around.  Although the surgery was successful, she was not eating well at all.

This is where Steve and I lived for those three weeks, right at her bedside.  There were two times of day when visitors weren't allowed due to shift changes and that was pretty much the only time one of us wasn't there.  I felt so helpless, my first time being a mom and having no idea what to do for my baby.

After the three most terrifying weeks of our lives, this is us on the day we were taking her home.  She finally started eating almost the amount the doctors required (just before they were about to schedule another surgery to insert a stomach tube).  Which is why it wasn't until literally the last few days that I could even somewhat relax about things.

I remember that I just sobbed the second we got home.  When our lives are going well, three weeks flies by.  But that time in the hospital with Katelyn truly felt like years.  We had one more trip back up to Madera three weeks later when she refused to eat after choking on her milk.  From then on, it was just routine checkups and esophagrams.

I can't imagine life without my Katelyn, but I can imagine what it feels like to come that close.  I know that every day I have with her is one to be cherished.  When I look at her now, on her two year birthday, I just wish I could have seen this glimpse into the future during those days in Madera.  To see her bubbly little self bouncing around the house, singing every song she knows, bossing the dog around, hugging her little brother.  I am one lucky mama.

Happy Birthday my sweet Katelyn!

An Eventful Weekend

This past weekend had a lot going on.  On Saturday we took Katelyn to see Disney on Ice: Toy Story!  Grammie and Grandpa surprised us with tickets (thank you!).  Katelyn loves this movie and knows all the characters, so she had a blast recognizing them all.  I wasn't sure how long she would want to sit through it, but it kept her engaged almost the whole time (like an hour and a half!).

"Studying" before the show :)
(I'm proud of myself for finally attempting some bows...I made this one to go with her last minute outfit - its actually a t-shirt from the boys section at Target, Luke may inherit this one!)

And in the car...

We just had to get a Jesse doll.

Jesse and Bullseye

The aliens

Jesse and Woody

Hangin out during intermission.

She LOVES the part in the movie when Barbie and Ken first see each other (set to the "Dreamweaver" song).  So she was thrilled to see Barbie come skating out.  But after only about 2 seconds of watching Barbie, she immediately started asking, "KEN??"

The next day we went to Murray Farms with the Lewis fam.  Katelyn got to play in a corn kernel pool, run through a few mazes, race rubber duckies, ride a cow train, and best of all...dance on top of a haystack with Sydney!  Such a fun day!

The Fresno Zoo

We took the kids up to the Fresno Zoo last weekend with Kristen, Jordan, and Sydney.  Katelyn had a great time, she saw so many of the animals we read about in her books.  Luke had a great time too...sleeping. :)

Our first stop: the giant tortoise.  Kate has a book she loves about a turtle called Murray who does everything slowly so when she sees turtles she says, "slowly, slowly!"

Next were the elephants.  They were fun to watch, we got there right at feeding time.

The elephants were one of the most popular for the girls!  Kate and Syd...such great buds!

I think the orangutans were Katelyn's favorite.  They were climbing all over the place and one of them even had a baby hangin on!

The tiger pretty much just stayed in this position despite Katelyn roaring at it to get up!

The giraffes were so cute!

Kate and Mommy laughing at the giraffe's long purple tongue!

Kate stretching to see the flamingos better!

And all the while....our little zonker.

Superdaddy...

Across the street was a little carnival.  She loves carousels.

...and bug rides...

...basically anything that moves!

It was a great...and exhausting...day!
