Summer

You'd think that during the summer I could keep up even better on my blog posts than other times of year but we have been so busy enjoying it that I haven't had much time!  Here are some randoms from the past month or so...

We had the best time ever hanging out with my college friends for the day at Lake Lopez.  The plan was to go for the weekend but we all came down with the flu the week prior and could only manage a day.  Still, it was a blast catching up with everyone and letting all the kiddos get to know each other better!

Lots of swimming going on this summer!

I got this idea from Pinterest to make "snow" from flour and baby oil.  They loved it!!

Who says it doesn't snow in Bakersfield??

We have accomplished a few big transitions for Katelyn this summer.  First was her move from crib to toddler bed.  I really didn't know how to go about this but it has actually turned out well so far.  We've just taken off the front of her crib and dropped the mattress to the floor so that we don't have to mess with a guard rail. She knows the rule is that she stays in her bed until we come get her.  For the most part, she sticks to that pretty well.  She will call for us if she needs anything.  However, recently in the mornings, she has been showing up in our bedroom wanting to hop in bed with us.  If it is still very early I just walk her back to her bed but if it is time to wake up anyway I let her climb in and cuddle with us for a bit.  As shown in the picture, Tucker loves the new set up also!

Katelyn has also come pretty close to being officially potty trained!  I can't say that she is all the way there quite yet because she still sometimes resists going "#2" in the potty.  But she wears panties all the time now, even when we go somewhere.  She is still always SO proud of herself and it cracks us up because she will come out of the bathroom when we are in a restaurant or store and shout at the top of her lungs, "I WENT POTTY!!!"

Katelyn has also been going to gymnastics again this summer and loves it much more than last time.  She is older, understands more, and follows directions better, all making it much smoother this time around.  It also helps that her best bud Sydney goes too!

We just got back from a trip up to the Bay Area to see some family.  Steve and I were able to sneak out one night to see a Giants game at AT&T park.  We took Caltrain there from San Jose, enjoyed a hot dog, Gilroy garlic fries, good beer, and Ghiradelli hot chocolate.  Such a blast!

And even came home with crazy hair hats for the kids.

While up there we also got to be with our nephew Matthew for his 10th birthday.  Kately and Luke LOVE big cousin Matthew!

Luke has been enjoying his birthday gifts...he loves his new water table!

And his wagon too!

Steve and I went to a Murder Mystery party and had to dress the part.  Obviously, I was a hippie and Steve was a sloozy lounge singer!

Gotta love summertime!

Luke's 1st Birthday

I can't believe my baby is turning one already!  We celebrated with family and friends at my parents' house, the perfect place to keep cool while still enjoying being outside.

I had fun putting together a fish-themed party

The Goldfish Bar was a hit! S'mores definitely the most popular.

Veggie cups

"Fish Bait"

The cake! The tail was reserved for the birthday boy.

The bigger kids loved the water slide!

While the younger ones stayed cool in the baby pools.

Digging in!

Luke was so much more adventurous with his cake than Katelyn was!  He didn't waste any time (but didn't seem to like the way the frosting stuck to his fingers).

Sharing his cake with his sister...what a good boy!

Nana, Luke, Papa

Grammie, Luke, Mommy

Uncle Zach, Auntie Shell

Uncle Paul, Auntie Brooke

While Luke napped, the rest of us had fun swimming.  Katelyn has just recently started getting more comfortable with the pool and loves jumping to Daddy.

She will even go under the water with Auntie Shell

Zoe brought Katelyn a matching suit!

Shell and Libs

Shell, Brookie, Moe

Zach and the boys

We put little goodie bags together for the kiddos

Later that evening all of Luke's cousins "helped him" open his presents (all of which Katelyn has been thoroughly enjoying!)

We all had a blast celebrating our little Lukie's 1st birthday!
